Docs: Change Fonts and Styles — Choose a Font, Set Its Size, Color, and Highlight, and Add Bold, Italic or Underline Formats
Transcript
The way your text looks on the page is an important consideration when working in a document.
You want to fit the subject of the document and appeal to your audience as well as your design needs, while also keeping your text organized.
Changing your document font can be done to suit your group requirements or to personalize your text and make it unique.
You can also change font sizes, styles, and colors to organize your text and highlight important information for your reader.
To begin, select one document font.
Then, make changes to specific sections that might call for a different font, such as the title of posters or flyers.
You might want to use a special font that isn’t listed among the standard fonts.
While your document might have more than one font for certain sections, too many fonts can be confusing.
Also, try to choose fonts that have similar styles, such as only using sans-serif fonts.
Next, change your font size to make your text easier to read.
You might also want to make sure that your text fits on the page before a page break.
Choose one font size for most text.
When editing a document that already has text, be careful to only change the size of the text blocks and not the headings.
For more graphic materials, such as flyers, use different font sizes to add emphasis to certain information.
Changing sizes also makes graphic sections of your document more interesting to look at when they are shared or posted somewhere.
Adding different styles to your text adds even more of an emphasis to specific details.
The most common font styles are bold, italic, and underline.
Decide what text you want to have your reader focus on and remember.
Then, add bold style to those headings and other key parts of the text.
Underline or add italics to other text to add emphasis in a different way.
Changing the color of your text or highlighting it makes it further stand out.
This is useful for calling out important numbers and dates.
You might also use highlighting to signal text that needs to be revised or completed.
Add highlighting to the areas of text that you want to emphasize or that might need more attention before you complete your document.
