Create Your Image

In this video, you will add numbers and colors to your spreadsheet to complete your pixel art project.

While Frida Kahlo is considered the queen of the self-portrait, she painted other things that were meaningful to her as well, such as animals, fruits, and birds.

She used bold colors to make them stand out.

When you create your own art, think about things that are meaningful to you or what you’re inspired by, and how you can use the colors you chose to tell a story or share a mood or feeling.

To start, open the conditional formatting rules to remind yourself which numbers and colors go together.

Begin with a blank sheet.

Delete any values that you entered previously.

Now, enter values to add color to your spreadsheet.

Add colors cell-by-cell...

...or click and drag a cell handle to copy the value to multiple cells.

A cell handle is a box in the corner of a cell that you can click and hold, and then drag to select more cells.

You can only drag in one direction at a time.

If you find that you need additional colors, add another conditional formatting rule.

Then, complete your image.

Don’t worry if you make a mistake or need to start over.

When you have completed your image, add a background color to make the image stand out.

To do this, add another conditional formatting rule that only applies to the empty cells around your image.

Select the range of cells around your image.

Add a new rule that changes the color if a cell is empty.

Then select a background color.

Now, it’s your turn.

Open the conditional formatting rules to see your color values, Add values to color the cells, Complete your image, Select a custom range for your background, And add a new rule to set a background color.
