Design your title slide with Word Art
Students add Word Art to make their title slide more visually appealing.
Transcript
In this extension, you will use Word Art to make your first slide, your title slide, more visually exciting.
"Word art" is a tool you can use to create text in various colors, borders, and fonts.
To begin, delete the text box containing your title.
Then insert word art to add a creative version of your title to your presentation.
Next, adjust the style of your Word art.
A font style or color can express a mood or a feeling.
Often, just by looking at the text, a reader can tell if a subject is serious, fun, or even silly.
Choose a font that reflects the mood of your If-Then Adventure story.
Then choose a solid color or gradient for your title.
Make sure your color or gradient stands out against your background, so that readers will be able to see it.
Now, choose a border color for your title.
Repeat the same steps to replace the subtitle text with Word art.
Move your subtitle underneath your title.
You can use the same font and colors in your subtitle, or choose ones that complement your story's title.
Resize and reposition the title and subtitle.
Make sure your title is larger and higher on the page than your subtitle, so your reader will see your title first.
Now it's your turn: replace your title with Word Art, pick a font, color and border color, repeat for your subtitle, and resize and reposition the title and subtitle.
Add Animations to your Slides
Students add visual interest by adding animations to slides.
Transcript
In this extension, you will add animations to the slides in your If-Then Adventure story.
"Animations" are visual effects you can add to images, text, or other objects in a presentation, to make it look more fun and exciting.
To begin, open your If-Then Adventure story.
Choose a slide to add an animation to.
Then, decide which object to animate.
You can choose images, text boxes or another object.
Try out different animations to see which you prefer.
You can adjust when each object appears and how fast each animation occurs.
Then, add animations to the other slides in your story.
Press "Play" to preview your animations.
Add animations to at least three of your slides.
Now, it's your turn: select objects in your slide to animate, and add animations to at least three slides.
Publish your If-Then Adventure to the web
Students make their If-Then Adventure stories available online by publishing them to the web.
Transcript
In this extension, you will publish your If-Then Adventure story to the web to share with a wide audience.
This way, your classmates, friends and family members can read your story! Before you get started, it's important to understand that publishing your presentation to the web makes it a public document.
So, take a moment to consider if there is anything in your slideshow that is private or that you wouldn't want everyone to see, like your name or the name of your school.
Also ask your teacher for permission before you publish your presentation to the web.
Once you are comfortable with the content of your presentation, publish it to the web.
There are several options to choose from, such as: "Link," which gives you a URL address to share with people and "Embed," which will paste the actual slideshow into a web page, blog or social media site.
For this lesson, choose "Link." Now, choose how the slideshow starts, either automatically when it loads, or manually.
Because your reader needs to be able to choose which links to click, you do not want your slideshow to start automatically.
Select settings that allow the viewer to choose which slides they see, and when.
When you have finished selecting options, publish your presentation.
Copy the link, and paste it into a new tab in your browser to view your presentation.
When you're ready to share it, return to the publish menu and email the link to your family, friends, or others.
At some point you might need to stop publishing your presentation from the web.
For example, you may want to make changes to your story.
You can remove it from the web, make changes, and then publish the file again.
Or, you can stop publishing it for any other reason, for as long as you like.
When you publish your If-Then Adventure to the web using Google Slides, you can reach a much wider audience.
You can embed it into a website, blog, or share the link on social media.
Now, it's your turn: publish your presentation to the web, copy the presentation link, and share it.
