Introduction to Make a Flowchart

People in lots of places have processes they follow, even at school.

Flowcharts help them follow that process and know their options when they have a decision to make.

A flowchart is a diagram that visually explains a process or system.

Flowcharts are useful because they help visualize the specific order in which a process should unfold.

Flowcharts use shapes like rectangles, ellipses, and diamonds, along with connecting arrows to illustrate steps and their specific order.

For example, school officials often use flowcharts to determine whether school should be cancelled due to bad weather, and doctors often use them to make important decisions when treating patients.

Flowcharts can also be used to describe a scientific concept, the way a computer system works, or the steps of a manufacturing process.

In this lesson, you will create a flowchart to visually explain a process.

You will use: Shapes, Text, And connectors to represent the steps of the process.

A flowchart can be created about almost any type of process.

The example for this lesson shows the process for following the scientific method, but you can create a flowchart about anything you like.

This lesson uses Google Drawings, but you could apply these skills and concepts in most other drawing applications or even on a piece of paper.

To work on this lesson, sign in to your Google account.

Open a new tab in your browser, and navigate to Google.com.

To begin, open Google Drive.

Create a new Drawing and give it a title.
