Design Cover Art for Your Playlist

Create cover art for your playlist using Google Drawings.

Transcript

In this extension, you will create cover art for your playlist.

Album covers give musicians a way to communicate visually with their fans.

Most cover art is displayed digitally, just like music.

And an album cover is a great way to show the album’s title and artist’s name, along with a striking image that captures the mood of the song or album.

As you design cover art for your playlist, you will: Create a new Google Drawing, Find and add an image related to the topic of your playlist, And write the playlist’s title on your cover.

To begin, open a new Google Drawing and rename it.

Cover art is usually square, so adjust your page size to be 8 inches by 8 inches.

Now, add a main image for your cover art.

Open a new tab and navigate to google.com Search the web for images, using keywords from your brainstorm.

People will see this image before they ever hear your playlist.

What impression do you want to make on them?

When you find an image that captures the meaning of your playlist, add it to your drawing.

Then resize the image and crop it to fit.

Your cover can feature one main image, or you can keep adding more.

Now, add the title of your playlist with WordArt.

WordArt is a feature that allows you to create decorative text.

Increase the size of your WordArt, Move your WordArt so that it is prominently featured on your cover art.

And choose a color that stands out against the image.

Select a color for the border of your WordArt If you don’t want a border, make the border transparent.

Now choose a font that captures the mood of your playlist.

If your playlist is about a serious topic, you can use a more formal-looking font.

If your playlist is about something more lighthearted, a playful-looking font might better suit that mood.

You can also add a shadow or reflection to add drama to your WordArt.

If your WordArt is difficult to see, you can make the image itself more transparent.

Select the image and increase the transparency to make your album title even more striking.

Great work! You can use your cover art to introduce your playlist to other people, or add it to your document.

Now, it’s your turn: Open and rename a Google Drawing, Resize your page to a square, Add, crop and resize an image, Add the title in WordArt, And format the title.

Make a Presentation for Your Playlist

Use your playlist to create a presentation you can share with classmates and friends.

Transcript

In this extension, you will turn your playlist into a presentation that will allow you to share your playlist with anyone! Once your presentation is complete, you can present your playlist to your class, friends or family.

You can even publish it to the web! You will use Google Slides to create a presentation.

Each song will get its own slide.

To begin, create a new Google Slides presentation...

and name it after your playlist.

Select a theme that fits the mood or topic of your playlist.

If your playlist is about a serious historical event, you may want to choose a theme with a darker, more serious-looking color scheme.

If your playlist is about something fun, you may want to choose a theme with brighter colors.

Add the title of your playlist and your name.

Now add one slide for each song in your playlist.

If you have five songs, add five slides.

You will have the option to choose a layout for your new slides.

Layouts help you create new slides quickly, because they already have places for a title, text, images, or other components of a slide.

A “Title and Body” slide layout will work well for this extension, because it has a place for a title, and then gives you freedom to arrange the rest of your slide.

Type the first song title and musician name from your playlist into the space at the top of the slide.

Next, copy and paste your annotation from the song into the slide.

To keep the font and other text formatting consistent in your presentation, “Paste without formatting.” This will allow you to paste just the words from your document, without carrying over their font and text size.

“Pasting without formatting” will keep your pre-designed slide looking neat and polished.

Adjust the text box to create more space on the page.

Now add a video of the song to your presentation! Besides being fun to watch, videos are a great way to let people hear the song you chose, directly from your presentation.

Search YouTube for a video of your song.

Then select one to add to your presentation.

If videos are disabled on your device, search for an image of the artist instead.

Now create the rest of the slides in your presentation.

Upload song titles and artists, your annotation, and a video or image.

Congratulations, you’ve created a presentation for your playlist! Now you can share your songs and annotations with anyone! Now, it’s your turn: Create and rename a presentation, Add playlist title and your name, Add slides, with song titles and artist names, Copy and paste annotations, And add videos or images of the artist.
