In this lesson, you will create a guessing game in a spreadsheet.
You will then play your game with a partner.
Spreadsheets often are used for storing data, completing calculations, and analyzing information.
While spreadsheet skills can be helpful for school and work, they can also be used for fun.
You will format your spreadsheet to contain a digital ocean and ships.
Then you will wage a sea battle on your partner’s enemy fleet! To complete this lesson, you will: Outline a grid and add blue shading to layout the ocean, Select cells to represent your ships and format them to change color when hit, Disguise your ships and share your spreadsheet with your partner, Take turns guessing ship locations on your partner’s spreadsheet, And continue playing until one person has sunk all their partner's ships.
This lesson uses Google Sheets, but you could apply these skills and concepts in most other spreadsheet applications or even on a piece of paper.
When you’re using Google Sheets, it might be helpful to use a screen reader.
If you have difficulty using a mouse, a screen reader could make it easier to interact with Google Sheets.

For part of the lesson, you will work with a partner.
If you don’t have a partner, ask your teacher to assign you one.
Once you have a partner, sit next to or across from them.
To begin, open Google Drive and create a new spreadsheet.
Rename your spreadsheet with a title that describes your game.
Now, it’s your turn: Sign in to your Google account, Sit next to or across from your partner, Create a new spreadsheet, And rename it.
