Play the Game
Transcript
In this video, you will battle your partner on the ocean territories you have both created on your spreadsheets.
To begin, open your partner’s spreadsheet and decide which of you will go first.
To take a shot, call out a “cell reference.” A cell reference is the “address” of the cell, indicated by its column and row; for example, the cell in column A row one is “A1.” Take turns calling out cell references to guess the location of and fire at each other’s ships.
Each time your partner calls out a cell reference, mark it with an X on your spreadsheet.
If your partner guesses correctly and hits one of your ships, the cell will turn red because of the conditional formatting you applied.
If your partner guesses incorrectly, the cell will remain blue.
Your partner will be able to remember the location of the cells they have guessed and the ships they’ve hit by looking at the spreadsheet you shared with them.
When your partner has hit all the cells representing one of your ships, tell them that they’ve sunk that ship.
Then, in your key, shade the cell red for the ship that sank.
Continue to take turns calling out cell references until one of you has sunk all of the other person’s ships.
Whoever sinks all their partner’s ships first, wins the battle, and the game! Now, it’s your turn: Take turns calling out cell references, Type an X in each cell your partner calls out, Add red shading to each sunken ship in your key, And continue taking turns until someone sinks all the other person’s ships.
