Welcome to Google Docs for Beginners! In this lesson, you will learn basic skills in Google Docs, a free online tool, or “app,” used to create text documents. Google Docs automatically saves your document online, not on your computer.

That means you can open your document and continue working on it from any computer or device that’s connected to the internet.

In this lesson, you will learn how to use Google Docs to plan a celebration. The document you’ll create will look similar to this.

But in the future, you can use the same skills to create any kind of text document, for example a shopping list, a diary, or a letter.

If you don’t have a real-life celebration to plan during this lesson, that’s ok.

Feel free to make up an imaginary one.

You can also copy the example project shown in the videos.

The most important thing is that you practice all the steps. Completing the steps yourself, instead of just watching the demonstration on screen, will help you better understand how Google Docs works.

It will also make it easier for you to remember what you have learned.

After completing this project, you will know how to: Create and name a new document, Close and reopen a document, Add text to your document, And adjust the text to make it easy to read.

If you’re not already signed in to your Google account, open a new tab, go to "google.com," and sign in now.

It’s okay to pause the video if you need to. If you need a reminder of how to sign in or create a Google account, watch "Welcome to Google Apps for Beginners" to learn all the steps. Now it’s your turn: Sign into your Google account.

When you’re done, switch back to the tab with the Google Docs lesson videos on it, and click Next to watch your next video.
