Write a Caption
Transcript
In this video, you will write the caption for your meme to explain your perspective on your topic.
The caption gives viewers more information about the image or provides context about how you want the viewer to understand the image.
Your caption might refer to a person or event that isn’t pictured, identify your topic, or comment on the image itself.
Memes usually use just a few words, such as short phrases or an incomplete sentence, to make a bigger impact.
They might even use poor grammar to make a joke.
To add your text, use Word Art.
You can use Word Art to change the size, border color, and fill color of text, which makes your meme’s captions attract more attention.
To write your caption, think about what statement you want to make about your topic.
Write a caption that refers to your topic and makes a comment on the image.
For example, if you want the viewer to compare the image with a historical figure, use the caption to name the person.
Type the first line of your caption...
And press Enter to insert it.
Then, use the rest of the caption to explain what you know about that person or how they are related to the subject of the meme.
Breaking up your caption into two parts creates a sense of rhythm as people read it.
Use the space in between the words to create humor or pause for emphasis, just like you might pause when you are telling a joke.
Insert more Word Art for the second line of your caption.
Next, format your Word Art.
Choose a font that supports the tone of your comment.
For example, use a casual font for a playful meme, or pick a more traditional font for a serious topic.
Resize the Word Art.
Make it as large as you can without covering up important parts of the image.
Next, change the color of the text.
Use a contrasting color to make it stand out.
For example, if your photo includes mostly dark colors, use a light colored text.
Finally, move the Word Art to the top and bottom of the image so that you can see the whole image.
This spacing also naturally creates a pause when people read it.
Great work! You’ve created a memorable and funny meme that clearly shows your understanding of a particular topic.
Move on to the next video to wrap up this lesson.
