In this video, you will write an email to your high school guidance counselor to ask for help managing your coursework to ensure you are on track to graduate.

Your guidance counselor is someone who can help you navigate your high school years successfully.

A counselor: Makes sure that you are taking the classes you need in order to graduate.

Helps you select classes with subjects you like.

Encourages you to explore what you want to do after high school, and offers advice on applying to colleges or work programs.

To begin, add your counselor’s email address in the "To” field of your email.

If you don’t know what it is, ask your teacher or your school counseling office.

Or search for it on your high school’s website.

Add a subject line.

A subject line lets your recipient know what your email will be about.

Start your email with a professional greeting, and a proper title that fits the person you’re sending it to.

Using a formal title like Ms., Mr., or Dr., shows respect for the person you are writing to.

Then, introduce yourself.

Ask them for an update on your progress toward graduation...

...and what courses you still need to take.

Finally, ask for a copy of your unofficial transcript.

Having your transcript is useful because it shows you the classes you have already taken.

A transcript is an academic record that lists the classes you took and grades you received.

End your email by thanking your guidance counselor for their help.

Add a courteous closing, and sign your full name.

Check your email for any spelling or grammatical errors.

And correct any that you find.

Then, save your email draft if you aren’t ready to send it now.

Or, if it’s ready, send it! Move on to the next video to create a spreadsheet to track your graduation requirements.

Now, it’s your turn: Compose an email asking your counselor to check your coursework for graduation, And ask for your unofficial transcript
