Crossword puzzles can help you practice spelling and vocabulary for school subjects.

But they are also a lot of fun! You can even create a crossword to challenge friends and family.

A crossword is a word puzzle that is completed in a grid.

People solve clues to help them fill in the correct words in the puzzle.

In this lesson, you will create your own crossword puzzle by adding words and clues in a spreadsheet.

Start by thinking of a theme for your crossword puzzle.

Choosing a theme will help you decide which words to use.

And, when people work on your puzzle, the theme will provide a hint for which kind of words to guess.

Your theme can be: Something you like to do, Somewhere you would like to go, A subject you want to review for school, or A topic you care about.

This lesson uses Google Sheets, but you could apply these skills and concepts in most other spreadsheet applications or even on paper.
