It’s not always possible to find people you already know who share your professional interests, or work in a career that you are passionate about.
If you don’t know anyone with a connection to a person in your field of interest, you can search online for someone who works in your local area and reach out to them over email.
To begin, open a new browser tab and go to Google dot com.
To find a new professional contact online, you can start by searching for local businesses in the field you are interested in.
For example, if you want to learn more about being a veterinarian, search for a highly recommended veterinary clinic in your area.
Choose a search result.
Then, explore their website to find out more about the business.
This will help you determine if it’s a place you might want to learn more about or even work at one day.
Most websites have a description of the company on the homepage, and links to other topics of interest, such as services the company offers or reviews written by their clients.
You might also find profiles of their employees, including their contact information.
A person who has many years of work experience can give you a lot of information and advice about their profession.
A newer employee may be able to tell you what it’s like to start a career in their profession today, and what kind of education you need.
Once you choose someone, add their contact information to your spreadsheet so you can refer to it later on when you email them.
