Write the First Verse
Transcript
In this video, you will write the first verse of your song.
A verse is a set of lyrics that tells the main story of a song.
Verses usually have the same melody, or tune, but different words.
Each verse also has a similar rhythm and the ends of lines sometimes rhyme.
Children’s songs provide good examples of a common verse structure.
But remember, there’s no right or wrong way to write a song.
Songs don’t even have to rhyme, and there are many different structures you can use.
This lesson will just give one example.
To begin writing your first verse, refer to your word list and song description to remind you of the story you want to tell and some words and phrases you can include in your lyrics.
Then, insert a page break.
If you don’t have a tune or beat in mind for your song, you may want to find a beat that reflects the mood of what you want to say.
In a new tab, search for a beats library to get ideas.
Once you have a tune or beat in your head, write a verse that begins to tell your song’s story.
The strongest lyrics capture the experience they are describing.
Use language that helps your audience picture the story you are telling with your song.
Rhythm refers to the length of musical sounds and the pattern in which they are arranged.
In order for the lines of your verse to have a similar rhythm, they should also contain a similar number of syllables.
A syllable is one of the parts into which a word is divided when it is pronounced.
Count the syllables in the lines of your verse and make adjustments to the words, if necessary.
Also, you may want to sing the words silently to yourself using the beat or tune you selected.
This will help you find the meter, or pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables, and ultimately, the rhythm of your song.
Now, it’s your turn: Review your word list and song description, Insert a page break in your document, And write the first verse of your song.
