Create a Pattern with Icons

In this video you will add icons to your papel and create patterns that represent your theme.

An "icon" is an image or symbol that represents a bigger idea.

Icons are useful for representing larger concepts quickly and easily.

You might even use icons regularly.

For example, an emoji is an icon often used to replace words or show emotion.

Icons are commonly used to represent cultures and religions, but they have many other functions too.

During Día de los Muertos, many icons are cut into the papel picado to represent different parts of the celebration of life.

Some common Día de los Muertos icons are: Sugar skulls, Marigold flowers, Candles, And monarch butterflies.

To begin, choose an icon from the starter project that fits your theme.

For example, if your theme is about a person or pet that you love, you might choose the heart icon to represent love.

Then, copy the icon, and paste it on your papel.

Move the icon to the top, left corner of your papel, and resize it so that many more will fit side by side.

Copy the icon on your papel and keep pasting it so you have a total of six identical icons side by side.

They do not need to be placed perfectly straight yet.

Select all six of the icons and use the align tool to create an even pattern on the papel.

The align tool matches one side of the images so they are level on the page.

Align your icons to the top.

Next, use the distribute tool to space them out evenly across the papel.

The distribute tool automatically spaces out images so they are all exactly the same distance apart.

Repeat these steps to copy and paste two more icons to your papel and make more patterns.
