Writing an essay is an essential part of many types of applications.

Your essay is an opportunity to showcase your writing skills, personality, and preparedness to prospective colleges, internships, or anyone else that may request an essay with an application.

You practiced writing a first draft of an application essay.

You should continue to work on this essay, and have other people look it over so your essay is polished before you submit it.

In this lesson, you drafted an application essay using Google Docs.

To draft your essay, you: Selected a topic prompt, Brainstormed topic details and developed at least three main ideas about your topic, Wrote an introductory paragraph which included a thesis statement, Wrote at least three body paragraphs, each with a topic sentence, And wrote a conclusion to wrap up your essay.

Be honest and genuine, and use your own voice when writing your application essay.

Colleges and other organizations are looking for thoughtful and motivated people.

Sharing something that is unique, personal and has meaning to you will make your essay - and you - stand out.

Knowing how to write an essay about a topic is a skill you can use in school, work, and in life.

The same skills you learned in this lesson can be applied to many other types of writing.
