In this video, you'll use "Verse by Verse" to help you compose a poem.

You will then copy the poem to your document.

Exploring Verse by Verse will help you get a sense of generative AI.

"Generative AI" refers to the use of AI to create new content, like text, images, music, audio, and videos.

While generative AI's ability to create content may seem like magic, it isn't.

Generative AI finds relationships in content created by humans and uses that information to create new content.

For example, it figures out which words commonly follow other words, and uses that information to string words together to make new sentences.

The Generative AI systems you are hearing about in the world are trained on billions of words, so they have seen many examples of how all your favorite words have ever been used.

It uses all of this information to write stories, answer questions, and as we will see with Verse by Verse, write poems.

Verse by Verse uses AI to create suggested lines inspired by classic poets, like Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe, that you can use to compose your poem.

You can use AI to support your work, but it's important to remember that it isn't a replacement for your personal efforts and ideas.

It is a great tool to aid you because it has reviewed more poems than a human ever could, but it can't think the way you do and it can make mistakes.

To create suggested lines for your poem, there are two AI systems at work.

One learns how to create poetry in the style of specific poets, and another tries to understand which lines best follow the previous lines.

To begin, navigate to "sites.research.google/versebyverse." Or click the link in your document.

Then, begin building your poem.

First, select muses, or sources of inspiration, for your poem.

Each poet has their individual style, and the lines "Verse by Verse" suggests will be in their style.

Click on poets to learn more about them and see examples of their poetry.

If their poetry appeals to you, keep them selected.

You can choose up to three muses.

If you choose more than one muse, Verse by Verse will suggest lines in each of the muses' styles.

After you're finished, move on to the next page.

Next, select the type of poem you'd like to write.

Use the definitions on the side of the page to help you decide what structure to use.

You can change the poetic form, syllable count, and rhyme scheme to create different types of poems.

If you're not familiar with these, you can leave them as is.

Now you're ready to write your poem.

Begin your poem with a line that will inspire your muses.

Just type whatever comes to mind.

Then, look at the suggestions from your muses.

You can use the suggested lines exactly as they are or change them to make them more meaningful.

You can even reject them completely.

Finish writing your poem.

Remember the A-I in "Verse by Verse" is intended to inspire you as you write your poem, not replace your own thinking.

Adjust the lines with your own words.

When you're satisfied, add or change any punctuation you'd like.

Then, give your poem a title.

And copy the text.

Finally, open your document from the main lesson if it's not already open.

Then, scroll down to the "Verse by Verse" header.

Paste your poem in the box under the title "My AI Poem." Now, it's your turn: navigate to "sites.research.google/versebyverse" or click the link in your document, create a poem and copy it, open your document and scroll down to the header "Verse by Verse," and paste your poem in the box under the title "My AI Poem."
