Google Arts and Culture is a website that gives you access to content related to arts and culture from around the world.

You can watch videos and view exhibits; explore images and sounds; and read articles to learn about the celebrations, historical sites, art, and events that shape cultures world-wide.

In this lesson you will tour the online exhibit “The Grand Tour of Italy.” This exhibit, presented by various institutions of learning, such as the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, explains why Italy is an important part of the history of humankind.

Italy is famous for its contributions to art, music, film, fashion, food, science, and more.

During the tour, you will explore topics such as...

The role rats and disease played in Italy's history...

How a gift helped create the first public art museum and changed how we experience art today...

A behind-the-scenes look at the country's most famous horse race...

And how young people are helping to reignite Italy’s love of opera.

Taking a tour through Italy is one way people learn about culture, art, and history.

But you can take your own tour right from your computer, so you can see great art, view important landmarks, and experience unique events.

Explore at least one of the cities in the Grand Tour of Italy.

As you read, watch, and listen, think about how the culture of Italy impacts your understanding of human history.

As you explore, you will look for particular details on the tour while you fill out a scavenger hunt in Google Slides.

Now, move on to the next video to get started!
