Write a Story and Check the Word Count
Transcript
In this video, you will write a short story, using words only, that includes details you can replace with emojis later.
You will then check the word count to make sure it is a good length for a rebus.
To begin, click on the tab with your document.
Then, begin writing your story.
You might brainstorm ideas to start.
It can be a true story or something you make up.
It can be about an event, a holiday, a sport, or anything else.
When you write your story, keep your language simple, so you can later replace some of your words or phrases to make your rebus.
Include details that can be represented by an emoji, like people or places, emotions or feelings, everyday objects.
Include specific details, such as “brushed my teeth, grabbed my backpack, and ran out the door.” This will make it easier for you to replace the words with emojis.
Even if you cannot find emojis for some of your details, being specific will help your readers visualize your story.
When you have finished your story, check the word count.
Your story should be between 100 and 300 words.
If your story has fewer than 100 words, add a few more details.
If your story is over 300 words, decide which details you can remove that will still keep your story both logical and interesting.
Now, it’s your turn: Open your document, Write your story, And complete a word count.
