Write Another Scene for Your Story
Write the next scene of your emoji rebus story in your document.
Transcript
In this video, you will add another scene or event to your emoji rebus story.
Most stories are made up of a series of scenes and events.
Even though you completed your emoji rebus story, you may want to tell more.
You may want to share another event that fits with the rest of your story.
Adding another scene to your emoji rebus story will give your audience more details.
To begin, open your emoji rebus story.
Then, make a copy of your story.
Rename it for the extension, and make changes from there.
Next, read your story.
Look for a part of the story that you would like to add to.
It can be a scene at the beginning or end.
Or you can find a place in the middle of your story where a new event would fit well.
When you have found a good place, add your new scene or event.
Add words only to start.
Keep your language simple and clear.
As you write, think about which words may be good options for emojis.
Then, replace at least five of your words with emojis.
It is okay to repeat emojis you have already used, but try to add new ones as well.
This will make your rebus story more interesting for your partner.
Your partner will also be able to continue practicing the use of context clues to figure out the meanings of the emojis.
Continue replacing words with emojis.
Share your updated story with your partner.
See if your partner can guess what your new emojis are supposed to mean! Now, it’s your turn: Open your story document, Write a new scene or event, Replace 5 or more words with emojis, And share your updated story.
Turn Your Story into a Book
Make your emoji rebus story into a printable book.
Transcript
Sharing your story digitally is a great way to let your partner use their own device to read it.
However, many people prefer to read stories in book form.
In this lesson, you will turn your emoji rebus story into a book that you can print and share.
By adding a cover page and page numbers, you will make the book feel more authentic.
Making a story into a book eliminates some of the steps needed to read it on a device.
It can also allow you to read it in any setting without having to worry about potential technical issues.
To begin, open your story document.
Before your story title, insert a page break.
A page break allows you to quickly separate two pages.
The pages will remain separate, no matter how much more information is added to either page.
Next, create a cover page.
Begin with the title.
Add your name as the author.
Change the font size and style of the title.
You want to emphasize the title and make it appealing to others.
Then, add an emoji that best represents your story.
You can copy and paste one that appears in your story.
Adjust the size of the emoji to fit with the title text.
Next, add page numbers.
Although your story may not have many pages, adding page numbers makes it look more like a book.
After formatting your story, print it.
If there is no printer available, save this step for later.
When you print your story, the emojis will be more clear if you can use a color printer.
If you do not have access to a color printer, that’s okay.
Now, it’s your turn: Add a cover page to your story, Insert page numbers, And print your story.
Create an Emoji Answer Key
Show the intended meaning of each emoji in your story by adding an answer key at the bottom of your story document.
Transcript
You used emojis in your rebus stories to represent words and phrases.
Using emojis can be a fun and effective way to communicate.
Emojis can represent everything from an emotion to an activity.
Sometimes, emojis can represent or symbolize more than one word or idea.
This can be helpful when you are trying to express something visually.
It also means that emojis can be interpreted in different ways.
In this lesson, you will add an answer key to your emoji rebus story.
Your answer key will help you and anyone who reads your document check the correct interpretation of each emoji in your story.
To begin, add an extra page to the end of your story.
Then, create your answer key.
Begin with a title.
Count how many emojis you have in your story.
Next, add a table below the title.
Include enough rows for your emojis.
Using four columns will allow you to have two columns each for emojis and their meanings.
Add headings to the columns in your table.
Add color to your headings.
This will make them distinct from the rest of the table.
Next, in a different tab, open the version of your story without emojis.
Use this document as you add the meanings for the emojis.
Then, add your emojis and their meanings, one at a time.
You can copy the emojis directly from the story.
Check the original version of this document if you are not sure of the meaning of the emoji.
You can either copy the meaning from your “words” document or add it directly to the table.
Continue adding your emojis and their meanings.
If you think that there is more than one possible meaning for an emoji, include all possibilities in the “meaning” column.
The next time you share your story with someone, let them know about your answer key.
They can check the answers themselves.
Just remind them: no peeking! Now, it’s your turn: Add a page to your story, Insert and format a table, And add emoji details to the table.
