Find Your Classwork and Ask for Help
Transcript
In this video, you will find your first piece of classwork and learn how to ask for help.
Google Classroom makes it easy to find all of your classwork in one place.
Using a tool like Classroom, a digital calendar, or even a paper agenda will help you remember due dates or important tasks.
You can check your Google Classroom anywhere, on any device.
Your class is organized into separate pages to help you stay on track.
The Stream is the class message board.
Your teacher might post announcements here or hold class discussions.
The classwork page is where your teacher posts classwork and materials.
You might be able to see your grade if your teacher has shared it.
Not all teachers share overall grades so you might need to ask your teacher about your grade.
On the people page you can see the teachers and the students in the class.
If your school allows it, you can send emails from the "People" page.
To begin, navigate to the classwork page.
Here you can see a list of your work and its current status to help you track your progress.
You can view your classwork in categories to see what you’ve already completed and what still needs to be done.
Find the assignment posted by your teacher.
It will be marked as “assigned” because you have not completed it yet.
Next, open it to read the instructions.
Your teacher may have added additional links, documents, or material that you need to complete the assignment.
Open any attachments your teacher added to the assignment and review them.
After reviewing the materials, type a thoughtful response.
Make sure to pay attention to how your teacher asks you to respond.
For example, the instructions might say to respond in the class comments or in an attached doc.
Remember that your school work reflects the effort you put into it.
Use this opportunity to produce work that you are proud of.
Use appropriate language in your comments and be respectful towards others.
Although the comments are a place to connect with your classmates, keep the conversations on topic for the assignment.
Comments in the classroom may require "code switching." Code switching is a practice of changing the way you express yourself depending on where you are.
For example, you might abbreviate words when texting your friends, or you might speak differently with your family, but try to write in a way that's appropriate for your teacher and class.
If you do not understand how to complete the assignment, you should ask for help.
It’s a great idea to ask for help in whatever way you feel comfortable.
Asking for help is an important part of learning! Knowing how to ask for help is important in every aspect of life including in professional settings.
Asking clarifying questions will let your teacher know you are engaged and participating, but that you need more information.
There are many ways you can ask for help.
If you comment on a post, everyone can see your question.
The teacher can answer and this might help your classmates who have the same question.
You can also make a comment directly in your assignment to show a specific place where you need help.
Only your teacher can see this type of comment.
If you have access to Gmail, you can email your teacher any questions directly.
No matter what method you use, make sure you communicate clearly and respectfully.
Now it's your turn: Navigate to the classwork tab, find the assignment, respond to the assignment, and ask for help if you need it.
