Brainstorm Ideas for Lyrics
Transcript
In this video, you will choose what you’d like your song to be about.
Then, you will create a list of words and a description that will help you develop your lyrics.
It’s estimated that people have been making music for at least thirty-five thousand years.
During that time, millions of songs have been written about almost any topic you can think of.
Great songs are often personal -- songwriters use them to express themselves and their experiences.
The topic you choose for your own song might be… Your culture, The day you had, Your friends, Your neighborhood, Something you saw or experienced, Or just something that’s happening in the world.
If you’re not sure what you want to write a song about, think about or listen to a few of your own favorite songs.
What do you like about them?
What do the lyrics mean to you?
Write what your song will be about at the top of your document.
Then, create a list of words and phrases related to your topic.
To help you, think through what your song will be about.
If it’s about your friends, why do you like to spend time with them?
What is a story you can tell about them?
If you’d like to write about your culture, you might think of a favorite holiday or tradition, or something about your cultural history.
For a song about your neighborhood, you might think of your favorite places or what makes it unique.
List ten or more words and phrases that remind you of your topic.
You will use this list to help you write the lyrics for your song.
Your list of words and phrases will look different based on your topic.
Now format the text you just added.
First, center your topic... Bold it...
And increase the font size.
Then format your words into a bulleted list.
Now you can begin to plan the lyrics of the song using the list you just created.
If you need inspiration, ask yourself questions such as: Who is involved in your song?
What happens to them?
Where and when do the events occur?
And what message am I trying to express with this song?
Finally, write a description of your song.
Now, it’s your turn: Type what your song will be about at the top of your document, Create a bulleted list of words related to your topic, Format your topic and word list, And write a description of your song.
