Introduction to Welcome New Students with a Presentation

In this lesson, you will work with a group to create a presentation to welcome new students to your school and help them feel more comfortable.

Starting a new school can be a scary and stressful experience.

Whether a student has just moved to your area or is entering middle or high school for the first time, they have to learn things like the school schedule, where classrooms are, and the school rules.

This can make new students feel anxious and overwhelmed.

Getting advice from students who know the school well can help relieve new students' anxiety and make them feel more welcome.

Think about what information you wish experienced students had shared with you when you were starting a new school and what knowledge you could add to a presentation for new students.

To complete this project, you will: create a new presentation and title it, complete the title slide and select a theme, add slides for each of your tips and a conclusion slide, share the presentation with your group, complete your tip slide, and preview and edit your presentation.

This lesson uses Google Slides, but you could apply these skills and concepts in most other presentation applications or even using paper or poster board and art supplies.

These features can make your presentation easier to navigate and more accessible for your audience.

Open a new tab in your browser, and navigate to "google.com." If you are not signed in, do so now.

If you do not have a Google account, pause the video and create one now.

For part of lesson, you will work with a small group.

If you don't have a group, ask your teacher to assign you to one.

Gather around one group member's computer.

To begin, open Google Drive and create a new presentation.

Give your presentation a title that describes its purpose.

Now, it's your turn: sign in to your Google account, form groups and gather around one student's computer, create a new presentation, and title it.
