Add Color to Your Mind Map

Experiment with changing the color of the shapes, borders, lines, and/or text of your mind map. Also add a background color.

Transcript

In this video, you will add color to your mind map.

Using color can be a powerful way to make connections in your mind and boost your memory.

This can be especially helpful when you’re using a mind map as a studying tool and want to link together similar concepts or themes.

To begin, decide where you can add color to make the connections clearer.

For example, you may want to make the shape of the main topic one color, the branch shapes a second color, and the twig shapes a third color.

Or, you may choose to make the branch and twigs the same color for each theme.

You can also add color to the borders...

lines...

...and text.

Experiment and do what makes the most sense to you Finally, add a background color that complements the other colors you chose Now, it’s your turn: Change the color of your shapes in a way that makes sense to you, Change the color of the borders, lines, and/or text if you wish, and add a background color.

Add Photos or Images to Your Mind Map

Add photos or images to make your mind map more personal.

Transcript

In this video, you will add photos or images to your mind map.

Photos and images provide a more personal touch and add visual interest to your mind map.

Combining words and images can help you express yourself in a different way, too.

Just like color, photos and images can be powerful.

To begin, decide where you might include a photo or image on your mind map.

If you are using a photo of someone specific, like a family member or friend, you might use your own photo of them from your phone or camera with their permission.

To do this, you can upload the photos to your own computer or to Google Drive.

Resize the photos and place them where you want them to go.

If you’d like to use images and don’t have them, you could search for them online.

Search for the image and make sure you have the right to use the image.

You don’t need to have photos or images for every branch and twig, but try to add at least two.

If you completed the GIF video first, you may only want to add one photo or image so your mind map doesn’t look cluttered.

Now, it’s your turn: Add at least two photos or images to your mind map, and resize and position them where you want them.

Add GIFs to Your Mind Map

Add GIFs to your mind map to make it look unique.

Transcript

In this video, you will add GIFs to your mind map.

GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format.

An animated GIF is a short, repeating video image.

Using GIFs makes your mind map look more interesting, visually appealing, and unique.

To begin, decide where you might include a GIF on your mind map.

Then, search for a GIF to insert.

Search for the GIF and make sure you have the right to use the GIF.

If you see something you like, insert it into your mind map.

When it’s inserted, the GIF will probably not be exactly where you want it.

That’s ok.

Just resize it and place it where you want it to go.

Now, search for another GIF.

If you completed the photos and images video first, you may only want to add one GIF so your mind map doesn’t look cluttered.

You don’t have to be exact in your search.

For example, instead of searching for the actual word on your map, you might get better results with a synonym, or a word that means the same thing.

Insert the GIF and resize it.

Now, it’s your turn: Add at least two GIFs to your mind map, and resize and position them where you want them.

Add Word Art to Your Mind Map

Use your creativity by adding Word Art to your mind map.

Transcript

In this video, you will add Word Art to your mind map.

Word Art is a tool you can use to create words with different colors, borders, and fonts.

Using Word Art allows you to get creative and use artistic elements in your mind map.

To begin, decide where you might include Word Art on your mind map.

You may want to make the main topic into Word Art since it’s in the center and will stand out.

Then, delete the shape with the text inside.

Next, make the text Word Art.

Resize the Word Art so it connects with your branches and twigs But if it’s hard to read, make it larger.

Now, use your creativity.

You can change the font to match your feeling or attitude about the main topic...

...and the fill color to match the mood of the font.

You can even add a border that complements the fill color.

Sometimes, changing the font of Word Art will move the text a bit, so adjust the connecting lines if you need to.

Now, it’s your turn: Delete the shape that you want to make into Word Art, Make Word Art, Resize the Word Art so it connects with your branches and twigs, Experiment with different fonts, fills, and border colors, And adjust connecting lines as needed.
